Ingredient confusion
Your magazine is a delight. I read it every month. However, I need help deciphering the Cat Nips recipe in your March 2005 issue. The recipe calls for 1/2 cup nonfat dry milk. I hate to sound stupid, but does this mean 1/2 cup of the dried powder, or 1/2 cup of the powder made into milk already? Thank you so much.

Actually, this is an excellent question, and one that helps clarify recipes in general. An ingredient is always listed in the measured form first, followed by any further work that is needed to prepare the ingredient. For example, you might see 1/2 cup flaxseeds, ground, meaning you should measure the flaxseed first, then grind. For this recipe, the dry milk stays dry; it is not reconstituted.
