If you’re trying to eat more plants—fruits, veggies, nuts, grains and beans—getting enough protein can seem difficult. According to Ashley Koff, RD, it’s not. One key is to ensure that you’re getting all nine of the essential amino acids that your body needs to build protein.
Koff asks: How do so many animals get their protein? They eat plants. The body manufactures many of the things it needs from its “cupboards” of ingredients. But it can’t create these staples, like amino acids—that’s why they are called essential; so make sure to get these in daily, Koff says.
