Turkey Sausage & Pepper Pizza Yields 1 10″-inch pizza Here it is, America’s favorite: sausage pizza, but with a twist. We used turkey sausage instead of pork sausage and loaded it up with beta-carotene-rich bell peppers. Most sausage pizzas have 50 percent of calories from fat; we’ve lowered ours to 36 percent. If you like pepperoni, try meatless pepperoni; you won’t be able to taste the difference!
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Baking Time: 8 to 10 minutes
1/2 basic pizza dough recipe
1 red, green or yellow bell pepper, sliced
1/2 onion, sliced
1/2 cup low-fat zesty marinara sauce
1/4 pound all-natural turkey Italian sausage, cooked and thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/2 cup (1.5 ounces) mozzarella-style soy cheese
1/4 cup Parmesan-style soy cheese
1. Preheat oven to 475deg.F. Sauté bell pepper and onion in lightly oiled skillet until wilted.
2. On a floured surface, roll out pizza dough into desired size and place on a pizza screen or baking sheet dusted with cornmeal. Turn outer edge under 1/2 inch to form a rim.
3. Spread marinara sauce over crust and top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Arrange sautéed vegetables and turkey sausage on top and sprinkle crushed red pepper over all. Bake until cheese melts and crust turns golden brown, about 8 minutes.
