What's better than a biodegradable cup? How about a cup you can eat after you finish your drink? (It's tasty—we've tried it!)
The women behind LOLIWARE, both former industrial designers, have created non-GMO edible cups made from seaweed, organic sweeteners, and organic flavors and colors derived from fruits and veggies. With flavors like Yuzu Citrus, Tart Cherry, Vanilla Bean, and Matcha Green Tea, these cups aren't just a vessel for drinks and desserts—they're a complement, creating a what co-founders Chelsea Briganti and Leigh Ann Tucker hope will be a whole new eating and drinking experience.
We recently chatted Chelsea and Leigh Ann (who have now made a successful appearance on ABC's Shark Tank) about the inspiration behind their potentially revolutionary product … and how they got where they are now.
What do you most want people to know about your products and company?
We want people to know that LOLIWARE is the world's first edible cup that can be eaten or composted into soil. The cups come in a range of delicious flavors that complement cocktails, desserts and beverages. LOLIWARE cups are used to replace disposable plastic cups at concerts, outdoor festivals, weddings, events and celebrations of all kinds.
LOLIWARE really is the first of its kind: A fully functional edible cup designed to replace plastic cups and bring an amazing new experience to parties and events.
What was the inspiration for your business? What inspires you daily?
The convergence of food, innovation and sustainability is what originally inspired us, and still inspires us. We always say we want to give people a reason to get excited about being eco-conscious.
What's your vision for LOLIWARE in the coming years?
Creating a “biodegr(edible)” revolution! We want to see LOLIWARE become a go-to product for sustainable events everywhere, from backyards to stadiums.
What's your favorite way to eat LOLIWARE?
We're currently in love with floats! Especially with Sorbabes Passionfruit with Lychees Sorbet and sparkling water, served in a Citrus LOLIWARE cup.
