Compostable and recyclable products don't mean anything if there are no facilities to process them. A cup made from corn is landfill if it goes in the trash. Enter Break It Down, a waste management company based in Austin, Texas, that has revolutionized the waste industry.
“Our warehouse is totally different from the industry standard; we separate everything by hand,” said Break It Down co-owner Jeff Paine in an interview with Organic Connections. “We offer the ability to recycle as many things as possible. We’ll take bags of plastic, bags of clean Styrofoam and bags of packing peanuts. We can take milk cartons, aseptic [commercially sterile] packaging, and any kinds of metals."
While the company currently only handles garbage, recyclables, and compost, as any type of hard plastic, future plans include diverting biodegradables to feed livestock.
