Rarely are homesteaders as young as 14.
Middle-schooler Orren Fox not only keeps chickens, nor does he just keep bees for honey, but he also writes about his experiences taking care of animals for food on his blog, Happy Chickens Lay Healthy Eggs. As a result, he is on a mission to educate the kids of his generation to live sustainably, and to be mindful of their food's origin.
“It’s good to know what you’re eating,” Fox explains in an interview with Organic Connections. “People aren’t eating my birds, but they are eating the honey that comes from the bees and the eggs that come from my chickens. It’s a nice way to get people on board with local food and what they’re eating.”
