Protein. Eggs, meat, beans, and other proteins contain amino acids, which help create the feel-good chemicals dopamine and serotonin in our brains.
Dairy. Calcium and peptides in milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, and other dairy foods can induce relaxation.
Shellfish. Oysters contain high levels of zinc, which counterbalances elevated levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Other sources of zinc include lean red meat, beans, and nuts.
Green tea. The amino acid L-theanine, most abundant in green tea, alters neurotransmitter levels, helping produce a relaxed but alert state of mind.
