Calling teen chefs! The National High School Recipe Contest provides an opportunity to win thousands of dollars in college scholarships.
Each year, the world’s largest culinary school, Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, invites high school seniors to submit original recipes for a healthful family dinner or dessert. The recipes must meet the nutrition guidelines of the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association, co-sponsors of the contest.
Each competition is judged separately by a panel of food professionals on the basis of taste, cost effectiveness, nutritional value, originality, creativity, presentation and appearance. The grand prize winner in each category is awarded a $5,000 renewable tuition scholarship to Johnson & Wales. Last year, more than $200,000 in scholarships were awarded. The contest begins March 17, 2001. Deadline for entries is January 26, 2001.
