Be positive
When I got offered an “energy make-over” by phone with Judith Orloff, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist, I was skeptical. Tapping my intuitive side sounded a little too kooky for this pragmatist at heart. But I’m starting to recognize the merit of revitalizing my vibe. (And I’ve tried to convince my friends that it’s not just because my makeover with Orloff started with her assessment, “You’re amazingly intelligent.”) Orloff is the real deal—a physician, clinical professor of psychiatry at UCLA, practicing intuitive, and author of a new, well-regarded book. In Positive Energy (Harmony Books, 2004), Orloff provides ten prescriptions, including diet, sexuality, creativity, and relationships, for increasing energy to improve your life. Her emphasis on action and skills (each chapter presents case studies and step-by-step energy exercises) is extremely practical. And inspirational: Sprinkled throughout the book are celebrity interviews—Naomi Judd used energy healing, as well as prayer, nature, and herbs, to cure herself of hepatitis C, and Rosa Parks applied intuition to maintain courage in her civil rights struggles.
Signs of positive energy in people
- They exude an inviting sense of heart, compassion, and support.
- You intuitively feel safe, relaxed, wanting to get closer to them.
- They emanate a peaceful glow.
- You feel better around them. Your energy and optimism increase.

If you’re overcommitted, depleted, or afraid to say no (like I was), read this book not to transform your life but to shift your focus, turn negativity around, and recover the strength and love vital to your health.
