Here’s your new excuse to buy organic ice cream: A recent study published in PLOS ONE found that organic milk offers more and better fats than conventional milk. Researchers examined 220 organic and 164 conventional milk samples from dairies nationwide and found that organic milk contains 62 percent more omega-3s and 25 percent fewer omega-6s than conventional milk.
Western diets typically contain too many omega-6s (fatty acids found in corn, soy, and canola oils that are implicated in modern maladies like cancer and heart disease) and insufficient omega-3s, essential fats found in fish, nuts, seeds, and of course organic dairy.
