The Grinch may have said it best when he crankily wondered at all the “packages, boxes, or bags” that come with the holidays. The wadded-up wrapping paper and piles of tissues take a serious environmental toll. But that doesn’t mean you can’t give gifts!
What to do
Just consider giving presents that come with less packaging, like a symbolic gift from a charity. Or go for an experience-based gift – think yoga classes, a natural beauty treatment, or tickets to a comedy show.
If you want to give a more traditional gift, make it one that will help the recipient go waste free, like a set of stainless steel straws or clothe produce bags. Or just let the recipient decide: A gift certificate to their local natural health retailer will let them choose a gift from an ethical, healthy brand that they’ll love!
Try it!
Ditch the tap and wrapping paper. Instead of wrapping presents and plunking them under the tree, consider hiding unwrapped gifts around the house. This way, you preserve the air of mystery around the gifts and get everyone moving. Win-win!
