Coffee is no longer just the fuel for an early morning caffeine fix: Recycled coffee grounds are also the primary ingredient in Java-Logs, a new brand of fireplace logs. Java-Logs are made from a mixture of discarded coffee grounds, wood, and vegetable by-products. The ecofriendly fireplace logs burn hotter and produce more energy than straight wood, and they emit 85 percent less carbon monoxide. Invented in Canada by engineer Rod Sprules, Java-Logs are available at many natural products stores in the United States.
