Aging brain protector. Maintaining healthy vitamin D levels can keep your brain sharp as you age. A collaboration between Duke University and Chinese researchers tracked 1,202 people for an average of two years. People with low vitamin D levels were twice as likely to show a significant decline in cognition and comprehension as those with normal levels of the vitamin. Another study of 382 people found that low vitamin D also accelerated cognitive decline two to three times faster than in people with normal levels of the vitamin.
