Deep-rooted benefits
Ashwagandha is a well-known Ayurvedic adaptogen, touted for its wellness benefits associated with promoting youth, longevity, and well-being. Research into this ancient medicinal has focused, in recent years, predominantly on its stress-relieving benefits. Now ashwagandha is being studied for its potential health-boosting properties associated with specific men’s issues as well.
Recent research
A 2022 study published in Health Science Reports investigated the impacts of ashwagandha on sexual health and wellness in adult males.
The method
This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involved 50 participants with low libidos who were asked to take either 300 mg of ashwagandha root extract or a placebo twice daily for eight weeks.
The outcomes were measured through self-reported surveys on sexual functioning and quality of life. Additionally, levels of serum testosterone (the primary male sex hormone) and prolactin (higher levels are linked to decreased libido) were measured.
The outcome
Researchers reported that participants who took ashwagandha twice daily had a significant increase in sexual functioning and testosterone levels, and prolactin levels remained steady.
These results suggest ashwagandha has the potential to improve testosterone levels and boost sexual desire in men. The added benefits of the increased testosterone levels may also positively impact bone and muscle strength.
Stock up
