10 ways to be a greener camper
Wear soft-soled shoes around the campsite
You may need sturdy, thick-soled hiking boots to tackle a tricky trail, but switch to soft-soled shoes when padding around the campsite. Heavy, treaded footwear does the most environmental damage, and the goal is to disturb the local flora and fauna as little as possible. Tennis shoes, Tevas or moccasins, on the other hand, don’t kick up as much dirt or get snagged on grasses and brush.
