10 surprising uses for vinegar
Use around the kitchen
Vinegar can be used in various ways as a handy kitchen aid. Keep a spray bottle with vinegar solution (half water and half white vinegar) and/or a bottle of undiluted vinegar in the kitchen to tackle a number of issues.
First, you can discourage ants by spraying undiluted vinegar outside doorways and window sills, around appliances and wherever you find pests coming in. You can also get rid of fruit flies by setting out small dish or undiluted vinegar. It will attract and drown them.
Vinegar also works well for miscellaneous issues:
- Clean the wheel of a can opener using vinegar and an old toothbrush.
- Soak a sponge in distilled vinegar and wipe grease off exhaust fan grids, air conditioner blades, the inside of your oven, or anywhere grease gathers.
- Keep a spray bottle of vinegar solution next to outdoor grill – whether gas or charcoal. Spray the cooking surface before heating and/or after cooking for easier cleanup.
- Spread a cloth soaked in vinegar over a label, decal or price tag you want to remove. Leave cloth on overnight and label should slide off.
