8 natural treatments for postpartum depression
Try to sleep.
This is difficult, but it can make an enormous difference. Poor sleep, not surprisingly, is associated with depression.
“Don’t stay up at night because it’s the only time you have,” Sanford says. “Get in bed, if you have a partner, by 8:00 or so. So by the time the baby wakes up for its first feeding, you’ve actually had some sleep. Have your partner get up during the night and take one of the nighttime feedings so you can get a better block of sleep.”
And as hard as it is to try to sleep when the baby sleeps during the day, it’s also a good opportunity. Let the house go, and get some shut-eye when you can.
