Quillaja

This natural emulsifier is made from the inner bark of the Molina tree, native to China and South American countries including Bolivia, Chile and Peru. Thanks to quillaja’s abundance of saponins, Andean people traditionally used it both as soap and also as medicine—especially for lung problems.

Keep an eye out for quillaja cropping up in personal care products also.
