The top 8 nondairy milks
Coconut milk
Taste & texture: Thick and rich, with a pronounced, naturally sweet coconut flavor.
Nutrients: Higher in saturated fat (4 g per cup) than other milks. Some brands contain 30% of the RDI for vitamin D and 50% of the RDI for vitamin B12 per serving. Canned coconut milks and coconut creams are significantly higher in calories and fat than those in cartons. Check labels; some brands also add almonds.
How to use: Not ideal for drinking straight; best for spicy Asian dishes, curries, ice cream, cakes, and muffins that benefit from the added coconut flavor.
Know this: Coconut farming requires less energy and water than almond or soy farming and may help reduce your carbon footprint.
