Finally! An FDA ban on trans fat—and where it still hides
Where trans fats hide
Until the new ban goes in effect, companies have been allowed to round down and put “0 grams” on the nutrition label if their product contains 0.5 grams of trans fats or less per serving. But even small amounts of trans fats here and there add up, and it can be especially dangerous if you don’t even know you’re eating them.
Until the summer of 2018, when the ban is in place, you can reduce your intake of trans fats by avoiding food products that contain partially hydrogenated oils in the ingredients list and steering clear of these common culprits.
