Delicious Living's Medical Editor Robert Rountree, MD, was recently awarded the 2015 Linus Pauling Award in Functional Medicine for his advocacy work addressing the underlying causes of disease.
The Linus Pauling Award has been given out since 1996 to such medical luminaries as Dean Ornish, M.D., Mark Hyman, M.D., Leo Galland, M.D., and David Perlmutter, M.D.
Rountree has a unique Colorado-based family medicine practice called Boulder Wellcare, which specializes in individual healthcare consulting that blends conventional medicine, nutrition, herbology, and mind-body therapies.
In his work since 2001 as DL's medical editor, Rountree provides technical advice on healthcare-related topics, reviews medical stories, provides insight on supplements, and contributes to stories here at deliciousliving.com.
Rountree is also chief medical officer for practitioner supplement leader Thorne Research, and has been part of the core faculty at the Institute for Functional Medicine since 2000.
“Dr. Rountree has been an enduring and creative force in the development of the IFM educational programs for applying and teaching a 21st-century clinical medicine and curriculum,” says Institute for Functional Medicine president emeritus David Jones, MD. “His input, curriculum ideas, and mentoring have significantly impacted IFM’s certification program graduates to better serve their patients suffering with chronic, complex medical illnesses, as well as advising them in their pursuit of health.”
The Institute for Functional Medicine describes functional medicine practitioners as physicians who support “the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual.” These physicians look for interactions among lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that can influence chronic degenerative diseases.
All of us here at Delicious Living congratulate Dr. Rountree on receiving this well-earned, prestigious award, and thank him for all he's contributed to DL over the years. Bravo!
