Teenagers are notorious for their zeal in philanthropy. From holding humble bake sales to organizing massive door-to-door fundraising efforts, young people are often passionate about sustainable and important causes.
Enter Teens Turning Green (TTG)—an organization founded to better enable teens to make positive differences. Founded in 2005 by mother and daughter team Judi Shils and Erin Schrode, TTG has since launched numerous campaigns designed to rally teens and college students across the United States around important causes. Recent programs include ReStyled to raise awareness over eco beauty, supporting the California Ballot Initiative to Label GMOs, and campaigning against chemicals in personal care products.
“This is my life,” Shrode said in an interview with Organic Connections. “To see the power of young people—finding their voices, becoming educated about relevant issues, standing up for something that they believe in, taking concrete action, and spreading the word—is remarkable. From our kitchen table to thousands of passionate, active young change-makers, it’s been incredible—and the journey has only just begun."
