Colon cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide, with more than 1 million new cases recorded annually. But a recent meta-analysis of 25 studies offers good news from a healthy breakfast staple: whole-grain cereal. The review of more than 2 million subjects found fiber from whole grains greatly reduced colon cancer risk; in fact, with every 10-gram daily fiber intake, the risk dropped by 10 percent. Look for cereals with ingredients like whole-grain oats, brown rice, barley, and whole wheat to reap benefits.
