More good news for people who can’t get by without their daily coffee or tea fix: These beverages may keep you young (not just at heart). According to recent research, coffee and tea could protect your DNA from oxidation, which makes you more susceptible to disease and premature aging. In the recent study, people who drank 800 ml (about three and a half cups) of coffee a day for five days had a reduced DNA-oxidation rate, while oxidation levels for water drinkers stayed about the same. And green tea may have similar health benefits: Research from Hong Kong showed that people who drank three cups of tea a day had “younger” DNA, adding as many as five years to their lives, than those who didn’t drink tea.
