This is no pyramid scheme. Designed to encourage long-term health, the new Mayo Clinic Healthy Weight Pyramid appears to stand on solid ground. Developed by physicians and dieticians, the guidelines focus on healthy weight maintenance, with plant-based foods and physical activity as key tenets. “This is based on what nutrition and health experts have been advocating for years,” says Jennifer Nelson, M.S., R.D., director of clinical dietetics at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. “It’s a useful tool to help people manage their weight and improve their overall health.”
