Moisturize. "Keep skin soft and moisturized year-round for better results when shaving," says Sherrie Huebner, director of ReFresh spa in Dallas.
Warm up. "Shave after spending a few minutes in a warm shower or bath when the hair shaft is really soft," recommends Kenneth Beer, MD, a surgical dermatologist in West Palm Beach, Florida, and author of Palm Beach Perfect Skin (MDPublish, 2006).
Change razor blades frequently. "We recommend replacing razor blades after every other use to avoid hair-follicle inflammation or infection," says Beer.
Keep it simple. Don't go crazy with postshave or postwax products. "Use just one calming treatment for a few hours; after that, apply a regular moisturizer," says Huebner.
