NBJ Summit Extension - Going Global: Taking Your Business Overseas & Getting it Right the First Time
Think your nutrition products company is too small, too niche or even too successful in your home market to consider global expansion? Think again. The $270 billion global nutrition industry market can be ripe expansion ground for almost any wellness-related company, thanks to an aging global population; the continued spread of diabetes, heart disease and other chronic health ailments linked to poor nutritional habits; a growing consumer embrace of self-care and natural therapies to prevent illness; and a burgeoning middle class stretching from Brazil to Ghana to India that has more money and more inclination to spend on health.

Joar Opheim is CEO of Nordic Naturals, who recognized the lack of high quality fish oils in the United States when he first came to California in the mid-1980s to complete his MBA. Joar was unable to find the quality fish oil he relied on to manage his old gymnastic injuries, and had to consistently bring bottles from Norway—filling his suitcase on trips back and forth. Having been born and raised in Arctic Norway, where the fishing industry is a crucial part of both commerce and academia, Joar was aware of the importance of pure Omega-3 in the diet. Over the past decade, Nordic Naturals has set the standard for quality in Omega-3 supplements. Today, they are the leading supplier of fish oils to retailers, consumers, and medical facilities.
