Follow these steps to determine how many grams of protein you should eat every day.

  1. Convert your body weight to kilograms by dividing your weight in pounds by 2.2.

  2. Determine where you fall in the athletic spectrum, between 1.2 and 1.7. If you exercise moderately a few times a week, you're likely to be in the 1.2 range; if you're a hard-core endurance runner, you're probably closer to 1.7.

  3. Multiply your weight in kilograms by the number in step 2. This equals your recommended daily grams of protein.
