Gluten-free breakfasts

Bakery on Main Gluten-Free Extreme Fruit & Nut Granola
We love the big chunks of walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, and pecans, plus dried raisins, cranberries, and apricots. The flavor-packed granola also is low-sodium and dairy- and casein-free, for anyone also dealing with a milk sensitivity.

Bob’s Red Mill GF Pancake Mix
This mix has a terrific, light texture that yields (not leathery) pancakes in minutes. And they’re kid friendly because the mix uses neutral-flavored potato starch and sorghum flour. Mix in your own fresh or frozen blueberries or bananas for more fun and nutrients.

Kinnikinnick Tapioca Rice English Muffins
Because this company offers a variety of reliable breakfast staples, including waffles and muffins, we were thrilled to discover the gluten-free English muffins, made from rice flour and tapioca starch. Pop one in the toaster and add your favorite jam for a quick gluten-free breakfast.

Nature’s Path Foods Crunchy Maple Sunrise
Nature’s Path has long been a cold-cereal favorite around here, so we were excited to try its gluten-free options. The verdict? This tasty cereal is popping with crunchy flakes and puffs, packed with nutritious ingredients like quinoa, amaranth, and flaxseeds, and bursting with sweet flavor from organic molasses.

Gluten-free snacks

Bard’s gluten-free sorghum beer
Light but flavorful and very satisfying, Bart’s is the original sorghum beer, created by two beer-loving guys with celiac disease who made it their mission to put beer back in the hands of gluten-free drinkers. Cheers to them! Try some at your next get together.

Beanitos Pinto Bean and Flax Chips
These gluten-, corn-, wheat-, and soy-free chips pack loads of nutrients: Each serving contains 5g dietary fiber and 4 grams protein, and they’re low glycemic. And they taste great! We love their heartiness and the slight bitterness of flax for a more intense flavor.

Blue Diamond Nut Thins (Pecan)
You know a gluten-free product is good when you put it out among a crowd of non-GF folks with other “normal” crackers, and they’re the first to disappear. These nutty crackers are richer and more elegant than others we’ve tried.

Crunchmaster Multi-Seed Crackers

These fantastic baked crackers nail the great-snack trifecta: gluten free, delicious, and healthy, stuffed with whole grains and seeds like quinoa, amaranth, flaxseed, and millet. Original and Sea Salt flavors pair perfectly with cheese; and we scarf the Rosemary & Olive Oil crackers straight from the bag.

Funky Monkey Purple Funk snacks
Crunchy organic fruit with no added sugar, flavors, or preservatives, making each variety a great lunch-box or car snack. Our fave is Purple Funk, organic bananas laced with acai. Bonus: Each 1-ounce bag provides three servings of fruit.

Glutenfreeda Vegetarian and Dairy-free burrito
A gluten-free tortilla wraps beans, organic rice, and veggies to make these tasty and dairy-free burritos. Ready in minutes, it’s great for an on-the-go breakfast, lunch, or snack.

Glutino pretzels
Gluten-free pretzels? You bet. These are crispy and crunchy just like the ones you’re used to. Available as twists, sticks, or rings, they’re perfect for dipping.

Mary’s Gone Crackers Original Seed Cracker
These crackers are the real deal: wheat-, gluten-, and dairy-free, and vegan. They’re made with organic whole grain brown rice, organic quinoa (“keen-wa,” a high-protein seed grain), organic flaxseeds, and organic brown sesame seeds. We also love Mary’s other flavors, including black pepper, herb, and onion.

Food Should Taste Good Multigrain chips
These crispy, nothing-artificial treats are low in sodium but still packed with flavor, and the entire line of flavors, including Sweet Potato, Lime, and even Cinnamon, is gluten free. We especially love the new Cheddar flavor for those cheesy-chip cravings.

Gluten-free pasta and bread

Amy's Rice Mac & Cheese
When you have absolutely no time and want something warm and rich, Amy’s gluten-free mac & cheese makes a comforting lunch or dinner, with excellent texture and taste. We like adding a bit of freshly grated organic cheddar cheese for added richness.

French Meadow Bakery Pizza Crust
These pizza crusts come out light and crispy and keep their shape, plus they’re casein- and lactose-free and packaged in aluminum tins to avoid contamination. Just pop one in the oven!

Tinkyada brown rice pasta
When cooked precisely, this brand has a nice texture that does not fall apart. Plus they’re certified organic and kosher.

Udi’s Gluten-Free Sandwich Bread

The grail of gluten-free sandwich bread. Udi’s Handcrafted Foods — bakers of yummy, all-natural items, from breads to granola — unveiled some of our very favorite gluten-free products this year, including a gluten-free sandwich bread that tastes and feels like “real” bread … even without toasting (the classic trick to make most gluten-free breads approximate typical bread). Udi’s bagels rock, too.

Quinoa Ancient Harvest Gluten-Free Pasta
For pasta lovers who suddenly discover they shouldn’t eat gluten, this is one of the best alternatives: easy to prepare, hard to overcook, and full of protein. Name a wheat-based pasta that can do all that!

Gluten-free baking mixes and desserts

Jo-Sef's Gluten Free Chocolate O's This chocolatey dessert could definitely compete with its Oreo counterpart - without having artificial flavors added. Dunk them in your favorite milk after school.

King Arthur Flour Gluten-Free Muffin Mix
Courtesy of America’s oldest flour company, this gluten-free vanilla muffin base, made primarily from rice flour, is perfect for adding your favorite fresh or frozen fruits and nuts. They keep for 3 days or hold up when frozen.

Pamela’s chocolate brownie mix
Because brownies are pretty tricky to get right without gluten (some can turn out too gooey or too crumbly), we are particularly impressed by this rich, chocolatey mix from Pamela’s, which has been turning out great gluten-free mixes (including chocolate and vanilla cake) for 21 years.

SO Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk Ice Cream
These decadent desserts satisfy any sweet tooth with zero gluten, dairy, and soy, sweetened with agave. We especially like chocolate, vanilla bean, and passionate mango.

Gluten-free frozen foods

Applegate Farms Gluten-Free Chicken Nuggets
These flavorful, succulent chicken nuggets are not only gluten free, but like all Applegate Farms products, the meat is raised without any hormones, antibiotics, nitrates, or nitrites.

Ian’s Waffles Egg & Maple Cheddar Wafflewich
On those occasions when the kids (or you) want a comfort-food splurge, these toaster waffle breakfasts hit the mark. Deliciously decadent but low in saturated fat, they make a great on-the-go or special-occasion breakfast for gluten- and nut-free eaters.

Helen’s Kitchen Thai Red Curry
We don’t eat too many frozen meals, but sometimes when things are particularly busy at home or work, a frozen entree is exactly what we need. Helen’s entrees are vegetarian or vegan and certified organic; the Thai Red Curry features perfect-texture tofu and stupendous flavor.

Organic Bistro Wild Salmon
Here’s another frozen meal we can eat with real pleasure. Our pick from Organic Bistro is made made with organic ingredients and sustainable wild-caught salmon. Plus both Helen’s and Organic Bistro’s cost less than you might pay for a grab-and-go sandwich from the nearby deli.
