Delicious Living's Beauty & Body Awards are about more than great products (though definitely that, too). From bathroom staples to industry influencers, take a moment to nominate the products and companies shaping the natural beauty industry.
Every day, we have the opportunity to vote with our dollars and with our actions. We can carefully scrutinize an ingredient list, replace a conventional product with a natural one, even reach out directly to a company, an organization, or the government.
All of these efforts have the potential to shape the beauty industry—and they finally are doing just that.
The natural and organic personal care industry is now valued at $8.7 billion and saw a 7 percent boost in sales in 2011, according to Nutrition Business Journal. NBJ expects mid-to-high single digit growth over the next five years, as well.
But sales aren’t the only way to gauge success of the category. This year, Congress met on cosmetic legislation for the first time in 30 years and Johnson & Johnson made an unprecedented announcement to reformulate all products, indicating that both government and large corporation are listening to concerned customers and following the lead of independent natural brands.
In my opinion, innovation and quality has never been stronger, either. And these traits are coming from both sides of the spectrum—from the small companies bringing fresh perspectives to the personal care powerhouses finally making serious change.
All of these things—combined with my love of natural beauty products, of course—are what make me superexcited to call on all of you to vote in another way, by nominating your favorite natural products and companies in these 17 categories. And I mean all of you. We want to hear from retailers, consumers and brands themselves.
Retailers, you’re the backbone of this industry, educating shoppers and fielding feedback every day. In an industry that has been plagued by confusion and skepticism, you’re helping to highlight the information that gets more customers shopping in the HABA department.
Manufacturers, if you don’t know what makes your brand stand out than who does? I want to hear which products you think best represent the quality and values that define you in this market (and are helping to define the market).
Consumers, it’s not just your purchasing decisions but your passion about these purchases that make this category a thriving one. So tell me, which companies earn your vote?
