Want to kick the Halloween candy habit? The American Dental Association and maker of the popular Plants vs. Zombies video game have a healthier solution—one that won't promote Zombie Mouth (a.k.a. tooth decay).
Is Halloween a guilty pleasure for your health-minded family? It is for mine. Although sugary, empty-calorie candy is generally verboten, my seasonal nostalgia for mini-Mounds bars weakens my resolve. Frankly, I’m intimidated to break with the hallowed tradition of the candy bowl—will Mom be seen as an early-season Scrooge?
Stop Zombie Mouth—a new campaign from the American Dental Association and PopCap Games—just might make the transition easier. PopCap, maker of the kid-craze Plants vs. Zombies game, is offering a free game download (a $19.95 value) for PC or Mac. At the website, you can print out colorful coupons that trick-or-treaters can redeem online by November 10—and kids will also find fun animations about how to stop Zombie Mouth (cavities, plaque, etc). You can also contact your local dentist to ask if he has packets of Stop Zombie Mouth trading cards.
If you can’t go cold turkey, give out the coupons along with gluten-free pretzel packs or these healthier Halloween treats picks.
