Despite warnings about sitting too much, eating too much, and stressing too much, nearly 20 percent of Americans simply feel too swamped and exhausted to make healthy choices, according to a 5,000-person survey and study conducted in 2013 by New Hope Natural Media. “There’s a lot of news about unhealthy foods and toxic chemicals in our lives, and it can get overwhelming,” says Rachel Sarnoff, former CEO of Healthy Child Healthy World and blogger at mommygreenest.com. “It’s tempting to act like the proverbial ostrich and just try to ignore anything that sounds scary.”
If “guilty and defeated” sounds like you, don’t despair—and don’t feel (too) guilty. “The great news is that even small actions can add up to a huge healthy impact,” says Sarnoff.
