• Moisturize. "Keep skin soft and moisturized year-round for better results when shaving," says Sherrie Huebner, director of ReFresh spa in Dallas.
  • Warm up. "Shave after spending a few minutes in a warm shower or bath when the hair shaft is really soft," recommends Kenneth Beer, MD, a surgical dermatologist in West Palm Beach, Florida, and author of Palm Beach Perfect Skin (MDPublish, 2006).
  • Change razor blades frequently. "We recommend replacing razor blades after every other use to avoid hair-follicle inflammation or infection," says Beer.
  • Keep it simple. Don't go crazy with postshave or postwax products. "Use just one calming treatment for a few hours; after that, apply a regular moisturizer," says Huebner.
