I was told by one woman that she uses some sort of magnesium oil or other magnesium medium as a topical application to relieve pain. Have you heard of such a product?

Yes, you can find topical magnesium oil products, which might be therapeutic if you require more amounts of magnesium than you can get orally, or if you can't tolerate taking magnesium orally (transdermal absorption is the intention). There are also other types of products that take this topical approach with magnesium. Natural Vitality has a product called Natural Calm Sports Bath, which would be a good alternative to magnesium oil, which can be greasy and may sting (why you often have to dilute it) upon application.
